More than 300 ‪#‎Jesuits‬ preparing to be priests and brothers in the United States and Canada are meeting this week at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. They decided to use the opportunity to record a welcome to their Jesuit brother coming to the U.S. this fall.

  1. I wish with all my heart, and offer many prayers, that all of those men will read, at least once, the "gold standard" formation text that was authored by a Jesuit and mandated for daily reading in the Jesuit Novitiate, for several hundred years:

Practice of Perfection and Christian Virtues
    by Fr. Alphonsus Rodriguez, S.J.

Published in 1609, translated into English directly from the original Spanish by Fr. Joseph Rickaby, S.J. in 1929.

It is well known to have been literally trashed in many Jesuit houses during the 60s and 70s. By God's grace, it can make a comeback!

Actually, I recommend that all Christians give it a read (though it will likely appeal more to men than women), but it would be especially great if the Jesuits would once again make it part of their core formation.
